How To Win The Hair Battle For Kids

One of the biggest battles parents have with kids at least for Moms anyway is their child’s hair. Up to a certain age the parent is responsible for the youngsters overall appearance and hair seems to take a lot of attention.

Most likely because you can go and tell a child to change an outfit and they can do it on their own. Then when you tell them to fix their hair that is a completely different story. Ironically, kids will start at a very young age being adamant about what they are going to wear. When it comes to hairstyle, they really are not very interested but you might want to try and slide in a few hair tips.

There are several ways that you can entice your child to take more interest in their hair appearance without it becoming a big chore. One of the biggest factors with children is it is uncomfortable for them to have their hair care done. This is especially true if the little one has curly hair and worse if it is long curly hair. Long hair seems to be the trend with kids, as the parents just hate the thought of that first haircut for two reasons.

One they feel like their child is no longer a baby (which is true) and the second reason is the fight that many kids put up on their first trip to the hairdresser. Speaking of which your hairdresser should be able to give you a few hair tips for the little one.

So where is there a happy medium here? To begin with, try to have a hairstyle for your child that is going to be easy to manage by both of you. Doing your child’s hair should be a pleasant experience for both and that could happen if you try a few of the  hair tips like the one we just mentioned.

The next issue to address is the tangles. Use a children’s shampoo that will detangle as well. Many children do not like having their hair washed for several reasons. Therefore, the goal here is to make it as quick as possible. You can do this by not having to use too many products during the hair-washing episode. For example making sure that the shampoo will clean as well as detangle.

The next step is to use the proper hair brushes. Often as adults, we tend to use stiffer type brushes that can make it uncomfortable for the child. This leads to another solution. Let your child partake in picking out their hair care accessories. This goes a long way in getting them to be cooperative.

In addition to this, the same applies for hair décor such as hair ribbons, hair barrettes or even hair scrunches. They will often suffer in silence during those few moments that you are fixing their hair, knowing they are going to get to wear the hair décor perhaps they chose. Try to think up as many hair tips as you possibly can to make this event easier.

Get into the habit of playing a game when it comes to the hair. For example, play hairdresser with the young lady to be. This encourages them to pay more attention to their hair, as well in some cases its “payback time” to Mom. Ask some of your friends whose kids are past this stage if they have any hair tips for the youngster they could pass on.
