When one thinks of hair removal most often the first thing, they think about it waxing. Probably because it one of the least expensive methods and has been around for a long time. Electrolysis has been in the picture of hair removal for a good many years as well but at a much higher cost.
Waxing at one time used to be somewhat crude in application, product and results. Technology has brought it a long way over the years but it still has a certain amount of discomfort associated with it. One has to remember that the wax is literally pulling the hair out of the skin and if done correctly then the bulb comes with it. No matter how good the technician is that is, doing the procedure the hair is going to grow back.
At one time there used to be two basic types of wax, being one was hot and one was cold. They were both warm to the skin when applied but the removal is what dictated the temperature.
With cold wax is applied to the area warm then allowed to grow cold and somewhat hard. Once this happened then the wax was pulled from the skin in a quick parallel motion. If done correctly then the hair, which was covered by the wax, came with it.
Now with hot wax the application is somewhat different. The wax once again is applied warm but this time it must be a very paper-thin layer. As soon as a section of wax is applied then a cotton strip is firmly place over the wax. The strip is then quickly pulled off but must be pulled in the opposite direction of the hair growth or it will be of no value.
When it came to which method was the best most people had their preferences. Many thought the strip application was not quite so painful whereas others thought the cold wax or hard wax as it is sometimes called was not as traumatizing to the skin. In either case, usually a soothing lotion was applied to lessen the irritation and cool the skin.
The skin reaction varies according to the area being waxed and the sensitivity of the skin itself. In sensitive areas such as the bikini area, it is not uncommon to develop a little tiny bit of pore bleeding where the hair shaft had been. It is always advisable not to take aspirin twelve hours before a bikini wax.
Probably the most common form of waxing is eyebrow waxing. This is something you don’t want an inexperienced technician doing. The wrong wax application can result in two very different brow shapes that will be very noticeable.
All in all waxing has a good purpose, which it still serves well. It’s a completely safe
hair removal for the most part but should be carried out by a trained waxing technician.
