Treatment Of Psoriasis Disease

There are many misconceptions about hair and scalp disease and that psoriasis  invariably accompanies it. When you mention the word disease, it sounds more drastic than it actually is and therefore the treatment is thought to be the just as drastic. However, there are good treatments available that can eliminate the problem and the persistent itching that goes with it.

What is surprising is that psoriasis is not the basic cause of hair loss; it is trying to control the itching that goes with it by scratching it away. When the scales associated with Psoriasis and scalp disease become thick, the temptation is to scratch severely to eliminate the problem. The problem there is that the scratching may alleviate the itching temporarily, but it also takes the hair with it.

The problem arises from the itching – because of its severe nature, people tend to treat it severely. Those who know not to scratch tend to overcompensate with a harsh treatment. This can also lead to hair loss due to the salicylic acid in most treatments that damages the hair making it brittle and weak, but the hair usually grows back when the treatment stops.

The trick in treating hair loss associated with hair and scalp disease is proper hair/scalp management, and that means proper knowledge of the way in which the disease works. If treatment with tar shampoos or with medicated shampoos doesn’t work, you can go natural. Chamomile tea has been proven very effective when allowed to work into the scalp, followed by a rinse with a conditioner. Many forget that a good conditioner is essential to the treatment of psoriasis, and hair/scalp disease.

The conditioner re-moisturizes the dry, flaky skin and soothes the annoying itching that accompanies it.  Conditioner is particularly essential to hair that has been subjected to the harshness of hair coloring, perms and hair sprays that dry out the hair and the scalp. It’s the drying of the scalp that is at the root of the problem, and that is where the focus should be concentrated. If you are uncertain about the effects or cause of hair/scalp disease and Psoriasis – see a dermatologist, and they will educate on how to properly treat the disease and then prevent its return.

If you don’t want to go to a dermatologist then you can try alternating shampoos, say, medicated one day, and non- medicated the next, or if you try a tar shampoo, use a gentle shampoo and conditioner the day after the treatment. These will not only take away the odor of the tar shampoo but also it will provide the much-needed moisture that the scalp must have to stay healthy.

The key thing to avoiding Psoriasis and hair and scalp disease is prevention; it is caused by the scalp drying out in most cases, so it is essential to keep the scalp from drying out. Again, to really know, consult a dermatologist, they’ll be happy to help.
