Hair Braiding - A Blast From The Past!
When we think of hair braiding those of us who want to give our age away will refer to them as pigtails. Now that is really going back a distance. For you young ones, this was a hair style where a perfectly centered part was made down the back of the head, with the hair equal on both sides creating two groups of hair. Now one group was taken and broken down into three smaller sections. These were then braided together. The ends were fastened with elastic and then a tiny ribbon was tied onto it. The same procedure took place for the other bunch of hair on the other side of the part. There you have it, the perfect set of pigtails.
Now if one really wants to be fancy and the pigtails were long enough they would be looped up and pinned to the top of the head. When one looks back, they really were not very attractive but they were practical.
Today’s braids although the basics are the same they seem to be much more elegant. Partly because the braid is usually just one and it is quick thick and large giving it an attractive overall look. In addition, the braiding techniques have become much more intricate. Another thing to remember is that nowadays-even men with long hair will not hesitate to braid it. As we mentioned there are variation in hair braiding now that create very different looks. In addition, it seems that some hair types take to different braiding techniques better than others do. One of the most popular braids is the French braid. Sometimes other types of braids are called a French braid when they really are not.
The next most popular is the Dutch braid. Each has their own uniqueness and ways of identifying them. The French braid is very easy to work when one has layered hair, whereas the Dutch braid is more suited for hair that is all the same length. Over the years the various styles that have surfaced incorporating braids into them has become quite innovative. One must admit that the Afro-American hair braiding styles are really a work of art.
No doubt, you have seen the version of those tiny little braids that cover the entire head and are locked off with beads. This really became the rage for a while. It is very time consuming to do this type of work. If you want to do so detailed braiding then you can utilize seven or even nine strands of hair to create your braid.
Another type of hair braiding that may have caught your eye is that tiny skinny braid peeking out the back bottom of the baseball cap that macho man is wearing. It is the “in thing” at least for now. Once individuals became bored with the Mohawks they began to spice them up by braiding sections of them.
Although most types of hair can be braided, they are best done on healthy hair.
